Nestled amongst the trees, in between Algonquin Provincial Park and the town of Whitney lives the Wilderness Campground, a clean, quiet and private site designed to bring you closer to nature.
Newly opened in 2023, we continue to invite campers to be pioneers at our “beta mode” campground. This is a unique opportunity to be among the first to explore our new site and play a vital role in its evolution through your valuable feedback. While our campground is still a work in progress, we are diligently working to enhance every aspect of the camping experience. Bathroom Facilities: The campground offers access to a wheel chair accessible comfort station with two fully accessible indoor bathrooms with hot water, two outdoor showers, and a central laundry sink for dishwashing.
Campsites feature: Fire pit, picnic table, on-site firewood for sale & FREE Equipment rentals like canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and more.
Amenities include: Potable water, central garbage and alcohol recycling, but no RV dump station. Sites are pet-friendly, have cell service, and cell phone charging station. Were working towards adding Wi-Fi, but we do not have a estimated time for it) Parking is included for one vehicle ($10/day extra charge for additional vehicles). Current Status of Campground Development:
We’ve completed our second year, and our campground has made remarkable progress! We’re incredibly grateful to the 200+ customers who supported us in 2024—we couldn’t have achieved this growth without you.
We now offer 15 campsites, all with fire pits and picnic tables. Premium, private sites like Two Rivers, Rock, Canoe, Peck, Timberwolf, Smoke, Whitefish, and Opeongo offer space and seclusion, while St Andrews, Cedar, Tom Thompson, Cashe, Galeairy, Lost Coin, and Whiskey Jack, though less private, are near the pond, where a blue heron, baby ducks, and a visiting fox have been spotted throughout 2024. These sites are also the focus of our tree-planting efforts to enhance privacy.
Our comfort station has two accessible bathrooms with running water and electricity, plus two outdoor shower systems with on-demand water heaters. Our solar system is fully operational, with a backup generator for cloudy days. We’ve added a fresh water hose and laundry sink, and cell phone charging lockers.
Potable water is available at the comfort station and non-potable firewater is available throughout the campground, and the ponds are now starting to flourish with greenery.
The field previously marked under construction has now been leveled, providing ample space for extra parking. We have exciting plans for this area and can’t wait to share them with you!
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re improving roads and campsites with gravel, planting over 200 trees for privacy, and. Stay tuned for more updates!
